The Rivers Edge Community website is dedicated to serving the communities at Rivers Edge Road and Route 29 in Columbia, Maryland.  Our beautiful friendly community has over 400 homes in four subdivisions and a community park with basketball, tennis, and a new children’s playground.

1/23/2020 – A standing-room only meeting took place today where an estimated 175 neighborhood residents met with councilwoman Deb Jung, representatives of State Senator Guzzone, Delegate Pendergrass, and Delegate Atterbeary to voice our concerns over SHA’s plans to close the only intersection that serves our community.  For more details see this post.

1/10/2020 – There will be a neighborhood meeting on January 23 @ 7-8pm in the Church of God meeting room (downstairs/around back) to discuss the SHA planned changes to the Route 29 and Rivers Edge Road intersection.  The meeting is to share information, collect ideas, and prepare an organized response for SHA and our elected officials.  If you can attend, please do; numbers matter.  For more information please see here.

01/03/2020 – SHA has reversed course and again proposed simply closing the intersection at Route 29 and Rivers Edge Road and removing the traffic signal.  This will limit access to/from our community to right-in, right-out using only Route 29 southbound (there will be no access to/from Route 29 northbound).  The SHA Community Liaison Elizabeth Harris has scheduled an informational meeting on Thursday February 13th from 6PM to 8PM at Hammond High School’s cafeteria (8800 Guilford Road).  For more information see here.

03/24/2016 – SHA has indicated that they will be meeting with the Clark’s Crossing community to review their concerns regarding Design Concept #5 and specifically where the slip ramps will be placed relative to their community entrance.  Design Concept #5 remains the SHA recommendation.   Following the meetings with Clark’s Crossing, SHA will hold another community meeting regarding the Rivers Edge Road / US 29 intersection to keep the communities informed.

 11/9/2015 – SHA has announced their intent to recommend a modified version of Design Concept #5 (an overpass connecting Rivers Edge Road to Old Columbia Road) as the solution for providing our community with access to/from Route 29 northbound.  See here for details.

10/19/2015 – A public meeting on changes to the Rivers Edge Road/Rt. 29 intersection is scheduled for Nov 12 5:30-7:30PM at Atholton High School Cafeteria.  See here for details.
